Now we have a new government, let’s have a crack at getting skilled staff ratios in aged care reinstated.
In 1997 John Howard abolished staff ratios in aged care. In the 25 years since, both Labor and Liberal have had the opportunity to reinstate ratios but haven’t, so let’s give the Albanese Government a crack!
The Albanese Government plans to raise the minutes of care to 215, but not to mandate skilled staff ratios. Unfortunately this will only result in three star care and the neglect will continue.
Without skilled staff ratios, as exist in child care and in Victorian state-run aged care, the threat of mistreatment by aged care providers is real and will be ongoing.
I have re addressed the petition to Prime Minister Albanese and have written to him today. I’m looking forward to his reply.
Fingers crossed that the Albanese Government will care enough about our elderly to make this change.
Can you please help me get the new PM's attention by tapping here to share this petition?
