Thanks to everyone who has signed, passed the word around and even donated to get more exposure.
We are doing okay but nowhere near where we need to be to make an impact and get the media's and politicians' attention.
I would appreciate it if you would send messages to the following individuals who have received emails today:
Elizabeth May, Green Party Leader- elizabeth.may@parl.gc.ca
Jagmeet Singh, NDP Party Leader- Jagmeet.Singh@parl.gc.ca
Yves-François Blanchet- Bloc Québécois Leader- Yves-Francois.Blanchet@parl.gc.ca (This letter was done in French- I hope it makes sense)
Pierre Poilievre - PC Party Leader- pierre.poilievre@parl.gc.ca
Mark Carney—Prime Minister of Canada—The official government website does not provide an email address or phone number, but I was able to fax him (his staff) at 613-941-6900.
National media is going out tonight: CBC, CTV, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, National Post, Calgary Herald, Ottawa Citizen, Montreal Gazette, La Presse, The Province, Global News, Radio-Canada, The Chronicle Herald, The Telegram, Winnipeg Free Press.
I would again ask that you contact your friends to sign the petition- I made the link easier if you are sending it by email: https://www.change.org/Mandate_Canadian_Party_Leaders_Security_Clearance
You should be able to copy a QR Code on the site to your phone, which will link directly to the petition.
I don't know if this is going to work. There are other petitions out there calling for the same thing—with a much larger audience; they started months ago. The issue is that the petitions they are having signed are going to places like 'The Canadian Military' and the Conservative Party—both are great, but neither have the ability to pass laws to mandate it. Others seemed to have started over a year ago- and didn't go anywhere. Sadly, I can't find a way to contact these people because it would be great if we all got together under one banner.
We can and will succeed because we have YOU—that's right, each and every one of you—who understand the importance of the issue. This isn't about party politics or the Conservative party—it's about their leader who doesn't want to know what threats exist within his own party. I have to wonder- I'm not accusing him of anything, but why is he afraid to get a security clearance? Is there something in his past that would prevent him from being granted Top Security Clearance?
As I asked in the emails to the party leaders, what happens if he wins a majority or minority government? Does he have the right to refuse to get the clearance? Or is it like our friends to the south- it doesn't matter how many felonies you have- once elected, you automatically have clearance? How safe would we be as a nation if that were to happen? Then, foreign interference from other players- Russia, China, India, and the US. Again, as I mentioned in the emails- we have seen a billionaire pay for someone to win the Presidency of the US to get what he wants. The effect it has on businesses and trade is that the average American pays the price dearly. How much would it take a foreign government or another billionaire to pay for 40-50 key seats across the country?
Assuming all the party leaders except one have the clearance, which party is most likely to be bought? Again, I'm not accusing the Conservatives of wrongdoing, but how will the party know if there is a security risk if the party leader refuses to get the clearances required to be briefed on possible candidates that are 'potential' national security risks within their party? If you consider yourself a Conservative, please sign the petition- and contact the party and the leader's office- to express your concern about the safety and integrity of the party and the nation.
I appreciate your efforts. I've sent an email to change.org to see if I was allowed to publish my email address and answer any questions you may have. I've yet to receive a response. Please don't give up the fight-we still have a few days left. Please keep reposting on social media and text/call/email your friends. We need as many people as possible to sign the petition.
Thank you all so much,
Brian Lewis
