Greetings!
Some exciting updates to share from the Golf Course Division of the Parks & Rec Department! Over the last couple of weeks they:
-
Completed repairs and increasing the size of the fence between the 9-hole golf course and the 28th Street Playground from 6 ‘to 16’. (See picture)
-
Are still procuring signs to inform park patrons about the potential for errant golf balls and hope to have them installed by the end of the calendar year.
- Are working to repair the fences between the course and Grape St. Dog Park as well.
While we know these updates are a step in the right direction, aren't a solution for most of the balls I've personally seen come into the playground. They tend to go much higher than those fences and curve down where the trees branches are sparce.
As a reminder, the real solution to this problem is the Golf Course Drive Improvement plan, where the holes will be redirected. (Read my last update for more details on that) However, it doesn't sound like they will be breaking ground any time soon.
I will continue sharing updates and pulling levers to request additional netting be installed by the playground, as a temporary solution as we await the greater improvement plans to make headway.
Lastly, REPORT REPORT REPORT.
If you or anyone you know gets hit by a golf ball, please report it to the golf course clubhouse, directly to a manager!
Happy Holidays to you all!
