Mandate Reporting for Cat Deaths Like Dogs

The Issue

Recently, our family experienced a heartbreak that no one should ever endure. Our cherished family cat fell victim to a reckless driver who intentionally sped up, striking our beloved pet. My 12-year-old sister was a direct witness to this heinous act, and the trauma she experienced is indescribable. This tragedy is not an isolated incident. I have seen similar fates befall the cats of others in our community, including a pregnant young cat whose life, along with her unborn kittens, was abruptly ended by a careless driver who did not even pause to check on the suffering they had caused.

Though cats are loved and cherished by their owners just as much as dogs, the legal system does not reflect this equality. We already have legislation that mandates cats to be microchipped; acknowledging their importance in families and society. Yet, the tragic and often violent loss of these animals goes unchecked if it goes unreported. There is an urgent need to amend the current regulations to include mandatory reporting of cat deaths, just as it is required for dogs.

Statistics show that countless cats are lost to vehicular accidents each year, leaving families devastated, without closure, and with no accountability from those responsible. This oversight in legislation means that those who cause harm, whether intentionally or accidentally, often escape any form of penalty, rendering the lives of these pets insignificant in the eyes of the law.

Implementing mandatory reporting requirements will ensure that such actions are acknowledged and that those responsible are held accountable. This would not only deter future incidents but would also provide some solace and justice for grieving families.

We propose the introduction of fines and criminal charges for individuals who fail to report the death of a cat caused by their actions. By holding individuals accountable, we can create a safer environment for our pets and instill a sense of responsibility in our community.

Support this petition to push for change in our legal system, making it a requirement for any death of a cat, intentional or not, to be reported in the same manner as dogs. Stand with us to ensure that all beloved pets are given the dignity and protection they deserve under the law. Please sign this petition to demand justice and equal treatment for our feline family members.
