Our son, Binyomin Zachariah, tragically lost his life due to a malfunctioning steam radiator in his bedroom. If necessary repairs had been conducted and city inspections enforced, this senseless tragedy could have been prevented. Unfortunately, our family is not alone in this heartbreak. To date, three babies  have died from similar incidents involving steam radiators across New York City.

Steam radiators are common fixtures in many NYC buildings. However, they can pose a significant risk if not properly maintained and inspected regularly. Valves can snap off and produce dangerous levels of steam that can be lethal to anyone inside the room where the radiator is located.

We believe it's time for the NYC Department of Buildings to take responsibility for ensuring the safety of all tenants by mandating regular steam radiator inspections across all buildings within its jurisdiction.
