The Issue

I had trusted my beloved pets to a well-established boarding kennel. However, upon retrieving my Great Dane from their care, I was faced with a horrific sight. My dog was dangerously underweight, and his tail hung lifelessly, infected with gangrene. He subsequently required emergency surgery, ICU level two care, and was hospitalized for an extended period.

The traumatizing experience, which threatened the life of my dog, helped me realize the significant lack of regulation in the animal boarding industry. There is an urgent need to mandate all animal boarding kennels to obtain proper licenses and insurance. Presently, the extent of the rules governing these establishments is alarmingly minimal, which results in inadequate care for our loving pets.

Take a moment and think about your pets and the trust you place in these institutions every time you leave them in their care. Your pet could likewise become another victim of these unstipulated and ill-regulated conditions.

This urgent need for change aims to safeguard animals and improve their residing conditions during their stay at a boarding facility. Imposing these regulations would also ensure some level of accountability upon these institutions, pushing them to adhere to a certain standard of care and safety, thus preventing avoidable tragedies.

The BCSPCA didn’t feel that criminal charges were necessary in Olaf’s pain and suffering, they didn’t feel it was criminal for boarding facility to watch him suffer and turn a blind eye to him.

To make this change, to protect our animals from neglect, please support this petition for mandating licenses, insurance, and regulation for all animal boarding. Sign the petition now and make a difference for our pets.
