Despite varying reactions to these figures, we can all agree that even one life lost is one too many. Therefore, it is crucial to implement security measures that could prevent potential threats. 

One such intervention is the installation of metal detectors in schools. This measure could allow for the early detection of weapons– including firearms– thereby potentially averting fatal incidents. New York City is an example where marked improvements in school safety were reported after installing metal detectors (Source: NYC Department of Education).
