The Issue

Envision a school system that prioritizes the safety, well-being, and success of every student, regardless of their abilities or challenges. Our families devastating experience with physical abuse in a school setting has fueled our determination to create positive, lasting change. By pushing for mandatory cameras in public school classrooms in Lincoln, Nebraska, we can take a crucial step towards ensuring that parents/guardians know all students receive the protection and support they deserve.

Why this matters :

  • About 1 in 36 children have been identified with autism spectrum disorder according to estimates from CDC's Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. Nonverbal does not mean incapable, but in cases of abuse, it inhibits their ability to speak out. The addition of classroom cameras can provide a method of dialogue for these children, ensuring their safety and well-being.

  • Their implementation has the potential to augment accountability and transparency. They can deter negative behavior and provide invaluable evidence in instances of misconduct. While giving parents a greater sense of reassurance and peace of mind regarding their child’s safety.

  • This isn’t about invading privacy. Our children deserve a safe learning environment. Mandate cameras in classrooms - protect our voiceless and vulnerable students from abuse.

Please, sign our petition today. Let's turn our tragedy into a movement that advocates for all students in Lincoln Public Schools.
