Mandate Home Checks and Support Services from Dog Breeders

Mandate Home Checks and Support Services from Dog Breeders
The Issue
Man's best friend deserves better. As someone who has personally seen the devastating consequences, I am deeply concerned by the growing problem of dogs being abandoned or given away to unsuitable individuals. More and more dogs are suffering, becoming victims of neglect or even cruelty, simply because their breeders fail to ensure that they go to appropriate, loving homes.
Breeders have a moral and a professional obligation to ensure the wellbeing of their dogs, both before and after the sale. Yet too often, this responsibility is overlooked. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 3.3 million dogs enter U.S. animal shelters every year, many abandoned by owners who were indisputably ill-suited to care for them.
We need to call for legislation that makes homechecks - thorough assessments of the potential home and its suitability for a pet - mandatory for all dog breeders. Not only this, but breeders should also provide after-sale support to new dog owners. This will help ensure that the dogs are cared for properly, reducing the likelihood of abandonment or abuse. The distress and pain of dogs are too high a price to pay for the neglect of those who should be their protectors.
Please, for the sake of millions of dogs suffering in silence, sign this petition and urge lawmakers to institute mandatory homechecks and ongoing support from breeders. Let's work together to give every dog the loving home they deserve. Sign this petition today; let your voice be heard for those who cannot speak for themselves.
