Mandate Government Regulation of Doordash Driver Compensation and Offer Transparency

The Issue

As a Doordash driver, I have personally experienced the financial hardship caused by the lack of transparency and fairness in pay structure within the company. I’m forced to cover gas expenses, vehicle maintenance, and other fees, all while barely making ends meet. What's more, despite Doordash charging customers up to 30% on top of the delivery fee, the drivers - the backbone of the service - see barely a fraction of those funds.

There is an urgent need for government regulation to ensure that gig economy companies like Doordash provide their drivers with fair compensation, transparency of offers and pay, and a guaranteed minimum wage. Millions of drivers nationwide share a similar story. According to a report from the Economic Policy Institute, many gig workers make below the federal minimum wage after factoring in expenses (Economic Policy Institute, 2018). This situation can only be addressed by demanding legislative action.

Therefore, we call on lawmakers to create and enforce regulations on the gig economy that protect and fairly compensate its labor force. No driver or gig worker should have to struggle to meet basic expenses while billion-dollar companies profit from their labor. We implore government agencies to establish oversight mechanisms for companies like Doordash to ensure transparency and justice for its workers. Let's put drivers' welfare first. Sign this petition now to demand fair treatment for all gig economy workers.
