My 9-year-old daughter was thriving under Occupational Therapy, a treatment prescribed to her due to Low Muscle Tone, Balance, and Motor Coordination issues. However, when her insurance stopped covering her therapy sessions, we were left helpless. We were advised to continue the therapy at home but the necessary devices cost thousands of dollars - an expense we simply cannot afford. To make matters worse, there are no medical equipment providers in our city of Syracuse, NY that supply occupational equipment.

This is not just our story; it's the reality for many families across the country. According to a report from The Commonwealth Fund (2017), nearly 14 million children in America have special healthcare needs and about one-fifth of these children do not receive necessary healthcare services due to prohibitive costs or lack of access.

The government must step in and ensure that all children - including those with rare disabilities - have access to essential therapies without being burdened by financial constraints or geographical limitations. It is unjust that policies should stand between a child and their health progress.

Please sign this petition urging lawmakers to mandate government funding for therapies needed by all children irrespective of their disability status or financial situation. Our children should not suffer due to policy inadequacies!
