The Issue

My son, who suffers from a food intolerance, has twice fallen ill at his primary school due to negligence by the catering team. These incidents could have been avoided if there was an allergy care plan in place. It is heart-wrenching for any parent to witness their child suffer due to something that is entirely preventable.

Schools and catering companies play a significant role in the daily nutrition and safety of children. Yet, many lack standardised procedures to manage and prevent allergic reactions effectively. Food allergies affect 1 in 13 children in the UK alone. With the prevalence of such conditions, it is unacceptable that comprehensive allergy care plans are not mandatory.

Implementing a legal requirement for all schools and catering companies to have detailed allergy care plans is a concrete step towards ensuring the safety of children with allergies and intolerances. These plans should include proper staff training, clear communication channels with parents, and systems for documenting and tracking all allergies.

By signing this petition, you are urging lawmakers and educational authorities to make allergy care plans a legal requirement. Together, we can protect children with food allergies and intolerances, ensuring their right to a safe educational environment. Your support can make a substantial difference in the lives of many families. Please sign this petition to drive this crucial change.
