As an American citizen, it's disheartening to watch our nation fracture under the weight of misinformation and biased narratives. We are living in an era where truth is obfuscated by the personal agendas of those who control the narrative. This petition calls for a mandate on all news media organizations broadcasting nationally, requiring them to provide fair, equal, and bipartisan coverage, especially when it comes to politics, goverment, and important news events. They should maintain a neutral stance and not take sides. They should only say the truth. Purposely and repeatedly lying and manipulating of the narrative should be punishable by fine, business closure and in extream cases, jail sentences. 

The personal feelings and opinions of writers, broadcasters, and company executives should not be utilized to shape public perception or manipulate public sentiment, especially during election season. The dangerous fallout of false realities and toxic ideologies is the deepening divide in our society, a divide that damages the very fabric of our democratic Republic.

Furthermore, dishonesty and the propagation of 'fake news' should be made illegal. According to a 2019 study published in the American Journal of Political Science, misinformation has a profound effect on the public's political attitudes, often creating unfounded fear and exacerbating societal divisions (AJPS, 2019). 

To preserve the integrity of our democratic republic and uphold the tenets of journalistic ethics, it's imperative that we demand change in how our news is delivered. Let us seek regulation that ensures honesty, objectivity, and fairness from our news outlets nationally. Please sign this petition to bring about this urgently needed change in our media landscape.
