As a concerned parent and resident of Rogue River School District #35, I have witnessed multiple instances of unsafe driving around our district's school buses. Vehicles disregard safety measures during the crucial pick-up and drop-off times of our children. These dangerous actions have led to near-miss incidents, jeopardizing the safety of our children, bus drivers, and waiting family members. This has to stop.

We propose a solution: requiring the district to install cameras both at the front and rear of all school buses. By implementing this measure, we could effectively capture evidence of reckless driving behaviors, hold the culprits accountable, and ensure they face penalties for risking the lives of children and adults alike.

Statistics show that school bus-related accidents account for approximately 40% of all fatal crashes involving school-aged children each year (National Safety Council, 2020). Let’s take measures to decrease these statistics and increase our community's safety. Installing cameras on school buses would act as a deterrent for irresponsible drivers, making our roads safer for everyone.

The safety of our children and community members is paramount. No parent should worry about their child's trip to school, and no driver should put lives in jeopardy. This measure is an urgent need.
