Mandate Evidence-Based Treatment in Addiction Centers for Insurance Reimbursement

Mandate Evidence-Based Treatment in Addiction Centers for Insurance Reimbursement

The Issue

Who I am video

I am an ICU nurse practitioner, and my 23-year-old daughter has substance use disorder. She has been to treatment nine times, yet her struggle continues. In my profession, evidence-based medicine is critical to patient outcomes; addiction treatment should be no different.

The addiction treatment industry is worth $42 billion, yet there's little oversight and a lack of studies on the effectiveness of treatments being offered other than medicated assisted treatment. Despite the accessibility of these treatment centers overdose rates continue to rise alarmingly.

Therefore, we call upon our lawmakers to require addiction treatment centers to offer only evidence-based treatment options or receive no insurance reimbursement. This will ensure that patients like my daughter receive the most effective care possible.

Furthermore, these programs should be required to participate in third-party run studies aimed at developing better evidence-based programs. This will not only improve existing treatments but also foster innovation in this crucial field.

We cannot afford any more preventable tragedies due to ineffective or unproven treatments. We need your support now more than ever - sign this petition and help us bring about necessary change in the addiction treatment industry.
