The Issue

Current Kansas law permits individuals to perform select beauty services, including hair braiding and threading, without a professional license, formal training, or mandatory annual health and safety inspections. Worryingly, these businesses are not required to disclose their unlicensed and unregulated status to the public. Consumers deserve to know exactly who is touching their skin, eyes, and bodies—and whether those individuals are held to strict safety standards.

Our Demand:
We, the undersigned residents and consumers of Kansas, demand that the Kansas State Legislature pass legislation requiring all unlicensed beauty and barber service providers to clearly and explicitly notify consumers prior to any service that:

1) The service is being performed by an unlicensed individual.
2) The individual has no legally required formal training.
3) The establishment undergoes no formal state health and safety inspections.
