Mandate Consultation with Dharug Nation on Matters Pertaining to their Traditional Lands
The issue
We, the Dharug Nation, the Traditional Owners of the Sydney Basin, have been consistently denied our rightful place in decisions that directly affect us and our ancestral lands. This is a blatant violation of our Human Rights and UNDRIP and we call on the NSW Government to meet with us immediately.
Our history is one of invasion and displacement, yet we find ourselves facing similar challenges today due to legislation that permits non-Dharug individuals to disregard us, refuse consultation with us, sell off our Ngurra (land) and dhalang (language) without any cultural connection or understanding of its significance.
We are witnessing a resurgence of past injustices as we are being pushed off our land once more for-profit and perceived positions of power. The New South Wales Parliament must rectify this by requiring all Ministers to support consultation with us on all matters relevant to Dharug Ngurra such as planning, education, legislation including Aboriginal-specific legislation and history.
The importance of this cannot be overstated - it's not just about respect for cultural heritage but also about ensuring sustainable development practices that align with traditional knowledge systems. It's time for change; it's time for respect; it's time for justice.
Sign this petition if you believe in fairness, equality and the right for Indigenous peoples like the Dharug Nation to have a say in matters concerning their ancestral lands.
