As a mother in Davidson County, NC, I have experienced firsthand the devastating consequences of our justice system's failure to protect the most vulnerable among us. My daughter and another young girl were victims of sexual abuse starting at three years old. Despite doing everything right as a parent - reporting the abuse and seeking justice - our pleas fell on deaf ears. The judge handling our case seemed indifferent to our suffering.

This is not an isolated incident but indicative of a larger systemic problem that needs urgent attention. Too many children are being psychologically, mentally, and physically harmed due to the shortcomings of our so-called justice system. Our children are being taken from loving parents for profit motives rather than their welfare.

It's time we demand better from those entrusted with upholding justice in society – judges must be required to undergo comprehensive training regarding domestic violence issues, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rights, and civil rights non-discrimination principles.

We were supposed to be born with fundamental rights; it's high time we reclaim them! We need judges who understand these issues deeply and can make informed decisions that prioritize child safety over any other considerations.
