Mandate Complete Ingredient List on Beauty Products

The Issue

I recently discovered that I am allergic to limonene, a chemical compound commonly used in fragrance formulations. Due to the fact that many personal care products like perfumes, lotions, and soaps simply list "fragrance" as a single ingredient, I have suffered from severe skin reactions, including blistering and itchy rashes that are extremely painful.

This is an issue that impacts many individuals who, like me, have allergies or sensitivities to certain ingredients but lack the full transparency needed to make informed choices. The term "fragrance" can represent a mixture of many undisclosed chemicals, some of which could trigger serious allergic reactions. According to Environmental Working Group (EWG), under the loophole in federal law, cosmetic companies can hide thousands of chemicals in the blanket term "fragrance" without disclosure, leaving consumers in the dark about potential allergens.

It's crucial for individuals to have the ability to make safe and informed decisions about the products they use on their bodies. A full listing of ingredients for all beauty and wellness products, rather than the ambiguous term "fragrance," must be required by law. This action will not only enhance consumer safety but also increase the industry's accountability.

Understanding what is in products goes beyond personal wellness—it's a right to transparency and safety.

Therefore, I urge the governing bodies to mandate that all manufacturers provide a complete ingredient list on beauty, wellness, and personal care products. Join us in advocating for this change to protect the health and well-being of consumers everywhere.
