Mandate Clear Labeling of Vegan Products to Exclude Traces of Milk or Egg

The Issue

My name is Daniel, a 24-year-old who has lived with severe allergies to milk, shellfish, nuts and peanuts since birth. I often rely on vegan products as they should be free from milk. However, the "Free From" ranges have been decreasing in recent years to make way for vegan products that follow food trends. Many of these products carry warnings that they may contain traces of milk or eggs. Recently, I suffered an allergic reaction after consuming a 'vegan' product from Morrisons which contained traces of milk.

This experience is not unique to me alone; many people with similar allergies face this risk daily due to unclear labelling practices.

The expectation of a product being vegan is that it will not contain any animal product. Clearly this is not happening in practise as a recent study by Hampshire and Kent Scientific Services found a number of products marked vegan to have inaccurate labelling and containing milk/egg. This is completely unacceptable, people should know what they are eating.

It's time we demand stricter regulations on what constitutes 'vegan' labelling and ensure it excludes any trace amounts of allergens like milk or egg. This will protect those like myself who rely on these labels for our health and safety.

Please sign this petition urging lawmakers and food regulatory bodies to mandate clear labelling practices for vegan foods that guarantee no trace amounts of allergens are present in such products if marked as 'vegan'.
