Every year, countless pets fall ill or even lose their lives due to accidental ingestion of toxic plants and flowers. This tragedy is often a result of pet owners being unaware that certain plants they bring into their homes are harmful to their beloved animals. We believe that florists, nurseries, retailers and wholesalers should be required to clearly label any flowers or plants that are known to be toxic to pets.

According to the Pet Poison Helpline, thousands of calls are received each year regarding pets who have accidentally ingested toxic plants (source: Pet Poison Helpline). The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) also maintains a comprehensive list of over 400 potentially toxic plants for various pet species.

By mandating clear labeling on all pet-toxic flora sold by florists, nurseries and wholesalers we can significantly reduce these numbers. This simple step will not only protect our furry friends but also provide peace of mind for millions of pet owners across the country.
