Petition updateMandate Airlines to Offer Free Extra Legroom for Tall PassengersWe Paid Extra for Exit Row Seats — and Still Got Stuck in Standard Seating

On our recent Delta flight from Venice to New York, I booked and paid extra for exit row seats for myself and Jake, who is 6’6” and physically cannot fit in a regular seat. We confirmed those seats with Delta multiple times before the flight.

But when we boarded, our tickets showed completely different seats, standard row with no extra legroom. Jake had to spend a 9-hour international flight jammed into a space that was never designed for someone his height, with his knees pressed up against the seat in front of him.

Delta initially offered a small apology: 6,000 SkyMiles or a $100 credit. Only after I pushed back did they agree to 10,000 miles. But that still doesn’t address the bigger issue.

Even when tall passengers pay for extra legroom, it’s not guaranteed.

Jake’s experience shows exactly why this petition matters. Height is not a preference. It’s a physical reality that deserves the same consideration airlines give to other accessibility needs. No one should be forced to suffer just for being tall, and no one should have to fight for basic comfort after paying extra for it.
