As an international student, I experience the unique joy and struggles of studying far from home. Once a year, I reunite with my family, which is a cherished opportunity. This year however, circumstances have taken a turn. I am a proud owner of two adorable guinea pigs, who are both four months old. Having to leave them behind for two months is agonizing. Not witnessing their growth, being unable to pet them, and the persistent worry for their safety makes the separation incredibly hard.

There are several airlines that allow small dogs and cats on board but have restrictions for other pets like guinea pigs. The Humane Society of the United States has affirmed that guinea pigs are social animals and they thrive when their owners are around. The trauma of being separated for a prolonged time can have adverse effects on their health.

Insisting airlines to allow guinea pigs in cabin as pets would mitigate this issue not just for me, but for countless others who consider these little beings as family. Let's urge the airlines to broaden their pet policy to include guinea pigs to ensure they are safe and content in the care of their owners during their travel.
