Mandate 7-Day Jailing for Breachers of Non-Molestation Orders

The Issue

I write today as a survivor of domestic violence, and a former volunteer at Women's Aid. I, along with countless others, have experienced and witnessed the anxiety and danger victims face when the violator effortlessly breaches their non-molestation order. Current laws only result in the offender being held for mere hours before walking free again. This system is far from adequate and does little to shield victims from further harm, making the non-molestation order seem like no more than an empty promise on paper.

Confidence in safety measures is essential, and we urgently need to reform this system. We propose a compulsory 7-day jailing period for any individual found violating their non-molestation order. This provision will offer a critical window of time for victims to relocate, seek further protective measures, and ensure their safety away from the offenders.

Let's transform this system from one that merely inconveniences offenders, to one that actively ensures the safety of domestic violence victims. Breaching a non-molestation order should be met with serious consequences, sending a strong message about the gravity of such actions.

Our call to action is simple: Make it mandatory that anyone who breaches a non-molestation order is jailed for 7 days. This simple change has the potential to protect women living in fear and uncertain about their safety. Remember that if we do nothing, the cycle of fear and abuse will continue. Therefore, we implore you to sign this petition to enforce serious consequences for those who breach non-molestation orders.
