Not bleakly, not meekly! We're over 3000!

Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition so far. It's been a wonderful response. I hope to have more news about next steps soon... In the meantime, I wanted to add a little personal reflection on why I feel such a great loss at Victoria's death, given I didn't know her, I never met her, but I felt like I did and I had. When someone makes you laugh, it's a heady cocktail of joyful seduction. You give yourself over to living in that moment of joy which someone has given you, and ultimately you fall a little bit in love. The more they do it, the more it happens. Seeing them and spending time with them is a happy place, a safe place. A piece of your heart becomes theirs, especially reserved, like a little parking space with their name on it. You always look forward to seeing them again. The power of laughter and shared joy which Victoria's work gave us cut through tears and suffering and united us in enjoying the absurdities and outright hilarity of life, its strange social conventions and the peculiar British obsession with appearances and pretending to be posher than you are (and usually failing). That was what I most loved about Victoria's work - the reminder that ordinary life offers such potential for humour and joy, it's just being open to looking for it and being unashamed to celebrate it. I often think that Victoria cut quite a sad and serious figure and I hope that the adoration and joy she brought to so many of us was reflected back to her and maybe, as a result, her heart had a little parking space reserved for all of us.
