Manchester Airport Terminal 2 — Fix the Chaos, Stop Unfair Fines, Make It Safe for All
The Issue
Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport is in crisis — severe congestion, dangerous waiting conditions, and unfair penalties are affecting thousands of passengers, drivers, and local businesses every day. We do not need expensive new roads — we need common sense, fairness, and proper management of the facilities that already exist.
THE PROBLEM:
- The T2 West Express Pickup Zone has an unrealistic 15-minute limit yet queues to enter routinely take 20–35 minutes. Drivers are physically unable to leave on time, then hit with £100 fines punished for delays the airport causes.
- The approach roundabout is poorly designed. traffic backs up, and there’s no smooth flow, the traffic lights allow 2 - 3 cars through before hitting red.
- Passengers often with children and luggage wait directly in the path of moving vehicles; sightlines are blocked; it is unsafe and an accident waiting to happen.
- T2 East Multi-Storey sits largely unused while T2 West is overwhelmed no overflow space is opened when crowds build and traffic is very busy.
- Many passengers now say they will fly from other airports damaging our local economy and reputation.
WHAT WE ARE CALLING FOR:
✅ Scrap the 15-minute limit — charge only for actual time spent, simple!
✅ Stop £100 fines for airport-caused delays automatic exemption when queues make it impossible to exit
✅ Fix the roundabout & traffic flow better lane markings, clear advance signposting, staff at peak times
✅ Make waiting areas SAFE for passengers waiting for their transport.
✅ Open T2 East Multi-Storey at peak times spread the load, reduce crowding, speed up collections
✅ Consult local drivers & businesses before changing rules.
These are practical, affordable changes that will make Manchester Airport work for everyone passengers, families, drivers, and local firms. Fairness, safety, and respect should not be too much to ask. We are not asking for overnight miracles but a fair resolution.
