Dear Signers, I am writing to you about Mums 4 Refugees “Season for Justice” campaign https://www.chuffed.org/project/seasonforjustice . It has now been a year since you all joined me in fighting to bring Abyan to Australia for much needed medical treatment after she was raped on Nauru. She and I are forever grateful for your support. Abyan’s case proved that there is a desperate need for the most vulnerable individuals on Nauru and Manus to have a strong legal voice, and as a result I established the National Justice Project - a pro-bono legal service in order to do so. Our small team works for free to give legal representation to those who most need it. We don't shy away from hard cases. In May, we had a another major victory in the Federal Court against Peter Dutton. We succeeded in obtaining court orders for the government to provide proper medical care to another refugee who had also been raped on Nauru. With your help we can fight and win more cases like that. Right now we are representing four women on Nauru who have breast lumps and who are being denied much needed medical assessment. I would like to thank Mums 4 Refugees for starting an online fundraising campaign so that we can employ a graduate to help with some of the detailed and time consuming behind the scenes work on these important cases. We rely on our volunteers but this extra resource will allow us to be more effective, and take on more cases.
