Recently, a video emerged on the popular video-sharing platform TikTok, of Malaysian singer/actress Wani Kayrie. She was seen doing BLACKFACE, as well as dancing to a seemingly innocent TikTok trend, where she danced out “gun-like” movements.

It’s now known that she only did this to promote her upcoming drama, ‘Dayang Senandung’. This upcoming drama of hers is said to be based off of a Malaysian folklore/classical story.

However, by producing this drama, especially during this time, when the majority of the population are standing up against Police Brutality, and for the rights of Black people (through the #BlackLivesMatter movement), it may come off as insensitive/tone-deaf/offensive to certain people.

Also, it’s been known, that renditions of ‘Dayang Senandung’, have already been produced several times before in the past. So why produce another one?

Let’s all sign this petition, to bring this up to the relevant authorities, to HALT PRODUCTION for ‘Dayang Senandung’!
