Have you ever felt that living in New York City is unaffordable as a young person? Nowadays, young people have to have internal conversations, such as, "Should I eat, hop the train, or get evicted today?" The NYC Youth Agenda Coalition has worked on creating a solution to address the economic issues that lie at the core of a young person's life. As you read and sign this, think about yourself, or a young person you know in your life that could greatly benefit from this.

This is a petition for a bill that we plan on introducing and passing, but we need your help! This will aim to address the financial barriers that 18 to 24 year olds face, as well as address and stand up for housing security.

Bill Parameters

• Create affordable housing set-asides specifically for young people aged 18-24, similar to those that exist for seniors. Capitalize on transitional and dorm-style housing options.
• Introduce OMNYcard Benefits to 18-24-Year-Olds: Provide half price fares for youth ages 18-24 similar to the age-based transportation benefits given to seniors.
• Offer automatic SNAP benefits for youth who live in subsidized housing like those offered to seniors.
• Tax Benefits/Credits for Young Workers: We want 18-24 year olds to get the dependent care tax credit for THEMSELVES which would be $3,000 annually.
