Today, we had a meeting with Minister Dines, who is the Minister for Safeguarding and members of the Home Office.
Firstly, it was great opportunity to be able to speak to these people and have an insight on what’s happening.
However, the meeting was a bit hit and miss unfortunately. Minister of Safeguarding referred Terri as ‘Miss Smith’ and told us over and over again that Clare’s Law does work and because it didn’t work for us, doesn’t mean that it won’t work for others, which wasn’t what we were saying. Sadly, a question was asked which has upset Angie, as it has made her feel like she was to blame.
From this we got to speak to a person that deals with all the forms and protocols of domestic abuse at the Home Office. She informed us that due to us campaigning things have been put in place;
1) All Police force in the country are now using the same form for consistency.
2) If the police feel like providing the information from Clares Law would but someone at danger, the I formation can get passed onto a relative.
3) Possibly looking at all websites being looked at to make it easier to find this informing
4) Possible looking into more information published about Clare’s Law.
I feel like this is a big thing and we are very proud of our achievements. However, this was very overshadowed by the comment made by the Minister.
