Kataang had a good, long run in A:TLA, starting with the original series, continuing through the comics and finally through their children in The Legend of Korra. Sure, Kataang is alright. I myself shipped them when I was a kid. But it's time for a new beginning... an adventure that just makes more sense in the eyes of many, if not most, of us in the fandom.

It's time to finish what was started with Katara and Zuko, and to explore a different kind of relationship between Toph and Aang. After all, "opposites attract..."

So let's mix it up a little. Give the fans what they want. Let's make it CANON!
