Make Vehicle Ownership More Accessible for Low-Income Individuals

Make Vehicle Ownership More Accessible for Low-Income Individuals

The issue

I've always dreamed of owning my own car, particularly a pink beetle that reflects my personality and love for my favourite colour. This dream is not only motivated by my personal preference, but also how hard I work to get what I want and need and the long time it will take me to reach my goal.

As an individual who has consistently worked extremely hard towards my goals, I am in desperate need of a vehicle to get myself from A to B and not only treat it like a vehicle, but have something sentimental I can work towards maintaining. However, the high costs associated with vehicle ownership make it highly challenging for many hardworking people, including myself. According to a report from the Australian Automobile Association, vehicle ownership costs can range from $150 - $335 per week depending on the vehicle model, which is substantial given the median individual income is $1,017 per week (Source: Australia Bureau of Statistics).

This plight is shared by many others who, like me, can't afford to own a vehicle despite genuinely needing one. I am campaigning for measures to be implemented that will make vehicle ownership more accessible and affordable for low-income individuals.

I'm calling on policy makers and financial institutions to devise innovative, suitable, and practical solutions such as car ownership assistance programs or lower interest car loans, to break down the financial barrier that stands between hardworking individuals and a necessary means of transportation.

Please join me in advocating for change. Every signature brings us one step closer to making vehicle ownership a reality for everyone who needs it. Sign the petition now.
