Make Transmountain Safe — Enough Lives Lost!
The Issue
Demand Immediate Safety Improvements on Transmountain Road (Loop 375) in El Paso, Texas
How many more serious crashes must happen before additional safety measures are implemented?
Residents of El Paso are deeply concerned about repeated crashes involving commercial trucks descending Transmountain Road toward Interstate 10.
On October 19, 2026, another serious crash occurred near Transmountain Road and North Desert Boulevard. This follows other devastating accidents that have endangered motorists and families traveling this corridor.
Although a runaway truck ramp was recently installed, serious crashes continue to raise concerns about whether current protections are adequate.
We are calling on the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), state lawmakers, and local officials to take urgent action.
We demand:
1. An immediate, independent engineering and traffic safety investigation of the Transmountain Road descent.
2. A thorough review of existing runaway truck ramps and whether additional escape systems are needed.
3. Evaluation of stricter commercial truck speed controls, brake-check facilities, warning systems, and other preventive measures.
4. Increased enforcement of commercial vehicle safety regulations.
5. A public meeting where residents can ask questions and hear directly from transportation officials.
6. A publicly available safety improvement plan with specific recommendations, responsible agencies, and timelines.
Our community deserves answers, accountability, and meaningful safety improvements.
We cannot accept repeated serious crashes as an unavoidable part of traveling Transmountain Road.
Every driver, passenger, and family deserves to get home safely.
Please sign and share this petition. Together, we can call for action to make Transmountain Road safer.
