Make the State of Texas a no-kill state for honeybees
The Issue
I have always been fascinated by bees and their important role in our ecosystem which they have been sustaining for millions of years. However, I am deeply concerned about the decline in their population due to factors such as habitat loss, pesticide use and climate change. I was shocked to learn that many people still resort to killing bees when they find them on their property or around their place of business. This is not only cruel but also detrimental to our environment.
According to the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Texas is home to over 800 species of native bees. These bees play an important role in pollinating crops such as cotton and sorghum which are vital to our state's economy. Furthermore, studies have shown that honeybees contribute $15 billion annually to U.S. crop production. Without them, we would face not only economic losses but also food shortages.
In 2012 The American Honey Bee Protection Agency. (AHBPA) was instrumental, working alongside Texas lawmakers, in passing an ordinance to provide for the relocation of wild or abandoned bees located within city limits that do not threaten human or animal health or interfere with the normal use or enjoyment of public or private property by expanding this program and becoming a no-kill state. In this way we can ensure that these crucial pollinators are protected from harm while also promoting sustainable agriculture practices that benefit both farmers and consumers.
I urge our state's officials to act and make Texas a no-kill state for bees. This means implementing policies that protect bees from harmful pesticides and providing safe habitats for them to thrive in, along with partnering with professional bee rescue teams across the nation trained to safely and humanely relocated unwanted bee hives and swarms. we will create jobs and save the world in the process.
I urge all residents of The Great State of Texas who care about the future of our food supply and environment to sign this petition calling on Texas' Congress to take action now before it's too late!
