The Issue

In 2014, Warner Bros and the Lego company came out with the very first full length theatrical Lego Movie ever. I loved it; it was very cute and interesting! I'm a huge Lego fan and this was a great movie for the beloved toy!  It had an interesting story, fun and lovable characters, nonstop humor and a beautiful soundtrack! I absolutely love the song "Everything Is Awesome!" It's such a catchy and meaningful song! I still can't believe it's been over a decade since the movie's original release!! It's absolutely amazing!!

(Spoiler Alert!)

However, the one thing I didn't like about it and didn't consider to be that "awesome" were the live action sequences with the boy and his father AKA The Man Upstairs (who was played by Will Ferrell just like Lord Business) playing with the Lego near the end. The thing is, I know that Lego is a toy brand but I didn't like how everything that was happening in the movie was just a kid playing with Lego in his home and supposedly not really happening all along. However, when Emmett fell down the endless hole and found himself in the basement with the boy and the father with the Lego sets, he didn't know where he was and was able to move a bit which kind of shows that it was really happening in a way. But I still think it should've taken place completely in the Lego world, not have any collisions with the real world! It was kind of weird and bizarre this way. Also, the whole thing with the doomsday weapon "The Kragle" which was just glue! And also all of Lord Business's other weapons in his office like a giant golf ball, a penny, etc. They really should've done that part differently too in my opinion!

Three years later, in the year 2017, they came out with 2 spin-off movies: The Lego Batman and Ninjago Movies. Both of them were also pretty good and funny. However, The Ninjago movie also had a collision with the real world but in a different way. It had the giant cat Meowtha invading the city which apparently was the same one who was briefly seen in the beginning where Jackie Chan was telling the story to the boy. That was pretty much the main thing I disliked about the movie.

Two years after that in the year 2019, which was the 5th anniversary of the first Lego Movie, they came out with the sequel The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. It's the most recent well known Lego movie that they came out with. The movie was just as good and funny as the original but unfortunately, it also had the live action sequences with the family playing with the Lego except it introduced the boy's sister and mother this time. In some ways, the real world and the Lego world collided more than in the original movie. Like in the first Lego movie, everything that was happening was supposedly just a kid's imagination except it was the boy's sister playing as well. Also, Emmett and all his friends thought Queen Watevra was evil but it was revealed that she, her minions, and everyone else in Systar were just trying to spread peace and harmony in the Lego universe to avoid a apocalyptic cataclysm called "Armamageddon." Not only that, but Rex Dangervest (who was revealed to be a future version of Emmett) turned out to be the true villain of the story and wanted "Armamageddon" to happen which was revealed to be just the brother and sister not getting along with playing with the Lego and their mother telling them to put them away in storage which would affect the Lego characters in their world. I still find it weird and bizarre that they did it this way!

In my opinion, The Lego Batman Movie is the best Lego Movie because it's currently the only well known movie to not feature any collisions with the real world (except the movie that Batman/Bruce Wayne was watching in his home theater and briefly showing the classic live action Batman TV series which doesn't really count in some ways.)

In 2024, (which was the year of the 10th anniversary of The Lego Movie) they came out with the movie Piece By Piece which is about Pharrell Williams told in Lego form. I haven't seen it yet but I'm almost pretty sure it doesn't have any collisions with the real world. It's the most recent Lego movie but it's not as well known as the other movies.

I think they had a Lego Movie 3 and a Lego Batman Movie 2 in the works but they both got cancelled sadly. I think one of the reasons is because Warner Bros lost the rights to the Lego Movies and was purchased by Universal Pictures. Also, I slightly heard that might have a new Lego movie in the works but it's probably a reboot instead of a continuation. I'm worried and concerned that it might have real world elements just like most of the other movies!

Like I said before, as much as I loved the Lego Movies, I don't like how almost all of them collided with the real world. Since Universal Pictures now owns the rights to Lego and might have a new movie in development, I want to try to persuade both them and The Lego Company to make it take place completely in the Lego World just like The Lego Batman Movie. We can't let the new Lego movie become like most of the other movies!!  Please sign, support, and share this petition if you also agree on all this!!
