✨ Big update 9/23/24: Yesterday’s meeting with the superintendent & student services director went so well! They were very open to my petition and are moving forward on several key steps — including CPR/first aid training for staff and exploring IT monitoring for student safety. In 4 weeks, I’ll meet again with a group of like-minded leaders to keep building solutions. Feeling hopeful for real change in our schools! I want to thank the two people who showed up, shared their stories! You guys are powerful! 

Our students deserve safe learning environments. Right now, there are preventable risks inside our schools that put kids in danger every single day. With just a few simple changes, Spokane can lead the way in protecting its students.

We, the undersigned parents, students, educators, and community members, call on Spokane Public Schools to implement the following safety measures immediately:

• Bathroom checks after passing periods
• IT monitoring for school computers & Email
• Building sweeps before administrators leave
• CPR & First Aid certification for all staff

These are practical, affordable, and life-saving. We came close to a tragedy and Spokane cannot afford to wait until tragedy strikes. 

We urge the district to prioritize student safety and implement these measures now.
