Make Rent Payments Count Toward Credit Scores!

Make Rent Payments Count Toward Credit Scores!
The Issue
📣 Petition Summary:
Too many hardworking renters are locked out of homeownership simply because rent payments aren’t reported to credit bureaus. It’s time for a change.
To Members of Congress, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA):
We, the undersigned, urge you to support legislation and policy reform that mandates the inclusion of rent payments in consumer credit reporting.
Every month, millions of Americans pay rent — often their largest monthly expense — on time and in full. Yet, these responsible payments rarely appear on credit reports, leaving renters at a disadvantage when applying for mortgages, loans, or even jobs. This is an issue of equity, fairness, and financial empowerment.
We call for the following:
Mandatory rent reporting to all three credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion)
Incentives for landlords, especially small property owners, to participate in rent reporting systems
Consumer protections against inaccurate or punitive reporting
By treating rent like a mortgage or car loan, we give renters the credit they deserve and help level the playing field. This is a powerful step toward closing the racial wealth gap, promoting homeownership, and rewarding financial responsibility.
It’s time our credit system worked for renters, too.
Sign the petition. Let’s make rent count.
