The Issue

We are Project Pluto. Our goal is to reach governmental approval to officially annex Pluto into its former title of "Planet" and reintroduce it into our Solar System.

In the vastness of our galaxy, amidst the swirling constellations and celestial wonders, exists a tiny but immensely beloved world: Pluto. Generations grew up treasuring this distant orb, identifying it fondly as the ninth member of our solar family. It was a planet of mystery and inspiration, fueling imaginations, teaching us about the cosmos, and symbolizing that even the smallest can hold a significant position in the universe's grand tapestry.

It's a place that, although many millions of miles away, touched our hearts as if it were a neighborhood friend. Yet, since 2006, Pluto has been stripped of its planetary status, following a decision by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). This reclassification came due to its inability to 'clear the neighborhood around its orbit,' one of the criteria set forth for planethood. This decision left many of us feeling like we lost a cherished part of our childhood, an essential piece of the night sky.

Imagine the outcry if Earth was excluded from the solar system due to a technicality! The current definition of a planet should evolve, considering the emotional and educational impact Pluto has imprinted across generations. Our plea isn't just about a label; it’s about rectifying a divide caused by redefining cosmic boundaries.

We advocate for a reevaluation of Pluto's status, suggesting that the IAU reconsider their criteria for what makes a planet, to include the history of celestial bodies like Pluto. It's time we revisit the characteristics assigned to planetary bodies with a more inclusive and holistic approach. Scholars, educators, astronomers, and enthusiasts around the globe would support a classification system that acknowledges the historical and communal context of these decisions.

We call on the scientific community and institutions like NASA to support this endeavor, to bring Pluto back into the fold of planets where it rightfully belongs. Let's make cosmic history by reinstating our little friend. Join us in our mission to honor Pluto's significance by reverting its planetary status. Your signature can make a difference in restoring Pluto's position among the stars. Please sign this petition!
