G’day everyone, it’s been a while. I had hoped to have some updates sooner, but unfortunately, there’s still no new progress to report.
The Nambour Homelessness Community Working Group (formed following the petition) has been meeting monthly to discuss solutions and explore ways to address the issue. I’m part of this working group, and at this stage, I have no news of any clear outcomes yet but I will keep the community posted as this progresses.
Council’s Response...
In the meantime, After a long month of waiting, the Council’s official response has finally arrived and here’s the tea...
Unfortunately, it reads as a bureaucratic document rather than a practical plan for change. It’s disappointing, but not entirely unexpected.
In short, the Council acknowledges the issue but hasn’t provided many practical or immediate solutions for Nambour. Their response also misinterprets some of the community’s key requests, so I’ve drafted a rebuttal to clarify our expectations.
While Council acknowledges the issue, their response focuses heavily on process, consultation, and coordination rather than any clear or immediate action.
That said, I’m not deterred. This just means we need to be more strategic and united in how we move forward.
Despite the frustration, I will continue to maintain a professional working relationship with Council, and hope they are willing to come to the table and fulfil their responsibilities to the community.
For anyone who wants to see the full picture, you can read a summary of Council’s response in the file section of our new Facebook group, Nambour Now, along with my official rebuttal.
Observations and Next Steps:
On a positive note, there appears to have been a significant clean-up under the bridge across from the RSL. It’s good to see some visible activity happening in the area.
However, I’d still really like to know what Council is actually doing beyond what they've stated in this email. I don’t want to make assumptions, but their response leaves little clarity about what concrete actions are underway. Hopefully, Council will be clearer and more forthcoming in future discussions so the community can see real progress.
This may be a process, but I’m not backing down. I’ll keep pushing for real, measurable action that supports both our community and those experiencing homelessness in Nambour.
Join the Movement: Nambour Now
I've created a Facebook group called Nambour Now to bring people together, share ideas, and keep this movement going so we can have action, now.
Given the way Council operates, it’s clear we need to be more united, organised, and vocal if we want to see real results.
This group will be a space for truth, collaboration, and community where we can coordinate, stay informed, and make sure our voices are heard.
If you care about Nambour’s future and want to be part of real change, please join us.
