The Big Legal Con

New Build Home Buyers are promised the earth and so many times delivered sub-standard, unsafe, broken promises that regularly do not meet building regulations, are not up to standard, cause health and mental health issues and yet UK homebuyers have fewer rights than when they buy a washing machine. One of my neighbours broke down and said they feel like they have been legally conned out of their entire life savings. The cost of these homes are high enough without costing years of families living in limbo, the crushing anxiety and depression caused by the issues and the constant delaying tactics from the builders and lack of any practical support in our society. If they get your food order wrong, it is cold, has salmonella or hairs in it, will we sit back and let that happen too? No of course not, but we see that builders and their shoddy work cause injury, destroy families with stress and strain and yet, everyone looks the other way. Well enough!

The Big Marketing Lie

In my own case, I have been fighting for 4 years to get the home I purchased and probably have many more years to come. Our estate looked beautiful in the marketing materials, the sales agent wrote on the marketing materials detailing the estimated times that each communal area will be open. The park was to be open in March 2019 and the larger children play ground and orchard June 2019. The first was completed last year and the second is yet to materialize.  7 years in and these beautiful environmental areas are still a weed choked wilderness with roads half completed and builders surpassing or breaking every planning requirement. i.e. how many houses can be occupied before these communal areas should be completed was surpassed 2 years ago and yet nothing happens. The wildlife, newts, bats, badgers that were all to be protected are non-existent this year and the beautiful trees have mostly been felled. And our estate is not alone and our builders are not the only ones. They seem to flout every restriction imposed and why shouldn't they? There are no real consequences for them but the financial rewards are great. 

Shouldn't We Get What We Pay For

We have all worked hard to get on the property ladder, and yet we have all seen the films from the snagging companies showcasing fake weep holes (I have a full set of these), houses not built straight, mortar so weak it can be rubbed out with a finger (this is my house), bodged and poor workmanship, mould and other damp issues caused but substandard work and cheap materials and gardens that are complete swamps, botched wiring (my boiler), floating floors (yep that too), leaks (yep), not built to design (yep), design not meeting building regs (yep), short cuts (yep), and buried rubbish, unconnected vents, the list gos on and on and on... and until the builders stop being protected, are held responsible for their actions and are penalised/fined/operations restricted whatever it takes to get the balance redressed and to make these big house building companies honest again. Please a few clicks will help change so many family lives. Every day, hard working familes that have believed the hype and have received in return a sub standard home. I recognise in today's world this is hardly earth shattering but without your help we are fighting against a government that does nothing but reward builders with more leniency (take the reversal of the protection of our rivers), this needs to stop. Please help, a couple of clicks and you're done. Let's get this long accepted injustice the attention it deserves! Thank you
