It's deeply upsetting for me to see a brand like MAC Cosmetics, which I have admired for its diverse range of high-quality makeup, still participating in practices that are not cruelty-free. Many of us have eagerly awaited the day when such a powerful and impactful brand commits fully to cruelty-free products. It's entirely possible, as proven by brands like The Ordinary, which have successfully navigated the complexities of international markets, including Mainland China, while maintaining their cruelty-free values.

MAC Cosmetics has publicly expressed a desire to be cruelty-free, and yet they have not fully realized this commitment. The reluctance to take that final step is baffling, especially in an age where consumers are increasingly demanding ethical products and transparency. Numerous cosmetic companies have pioneered ways to bypass animal testing and still comply with regulations in countries like China, which are known for their stringent import laws that have traditionally required animal testing.

To continue selling in China without abandoning cruelty-free practices, MAC can adopt alternative testing methods approved by Chinese authorities. This can be achieved by constructing and operating their own factories within China or by investing in improved testing techniques that do not harm animals, such as in vitro testing and computer simulations. With strategic efforts, MAC can maintain its position as a global leader in beauty while honoring a commitment to compassion and ethical responsibility.

According to PETA, over 100 million animals are used in lab experiments every year. These innocent creatures endure pain and suffering, often just for the sake of testing cosmetic products. Consider the impact that a major player like MAC could have in reducing this number by setting an example for other companies still hesitant to make the shift.

I urge MAC Cosmetics to step up and lead by example, aligning their practices with their stated values and the expectations of their loyal customer base. We want to continue enjoying MAC products, knowing they are developed with the utmost regard for animal welfare.
