Make Long-Term Camp Ground Living Illegal in Oconee County SC

Make Long-Term Camp Ground Living Illegal in Oconee County SC
The Issue
The peacefulness and sanctity of our neighborhoods is being compromised by an increasingly prevalent issue - the influx of long-term campers. These campers are not only becoming an eyesore in the community but are contributing to crime, drug use and are devaluing our cherished homes. It's not just about aesthetics or property values. It's about the safety, health, and well-being of our people and our communities. Last year, we had a long time camper resident running from the law, drive into our driveway and run through our yard and pasture before being apprehended. After being released from jail, this person returned to our property wanting to search our land to find something he had lost while running from the law. Currently, in multiple states across the country, the law allows long-term living in campers, including on public property and private land owned by others. This enables an environment conducive to crime and drug usage. According to a study by the Urban Institute, neighborhoods with higher levels of disorder and crime can have detrimental effects on residents’ mental health and overall community cohesion (Urban Institute, 2012). We, as responsible citizens, urgently request that the lawmakers impose laws to make long-term camper living illegal unless it occurs on person's own land. With your signature on this petition, we can together urge the necessary actions to protect the serene ethos, property values, and most importantly, the safety and well-being of our communities. Please sign this petition and support our call for a safer and prosperous neighborhood.
