Make JAMB result valid for 2 years

The Issue

The UTME exam (JAMB) is a requirement for entry into the Nigerian tertiary institution system. All students are required to take the JAMB exam as a prerequisite to gain admission into the university or tertiary institution of their choice.

We however see a problem with the validity of this exam. The UTME result is only valid for a year, this coupled with force majeure has made a lot of students stay a whole year out of school due to unpredictable circumstances.

The JAMB syllabus perpetually remains the same but altered over the course of years where and when necessary, the compulsory Novel for the use of English is not changed yearly, therefore the validity of a result should not be running on an annual life span.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board profits greatly off of the students who are forced to register and retake the exam which comes with a fee several low income homes would struggle to pay, even though they met necessary cut off points the preceding year, but were not able to attend a tertiary institution that year for one reason or the other.

I am using this petition to call on Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the Federal Ministry of Education, to extend the validity of the UTME result by one year, to make admission into tertiary institutions more convenient and bearable for Nigerian Students.
