When hurricanes hit, many pets are left behind to suffer alone. Some are chained, trapped, or abandoned with no way to escape rising waters or flying debris. It's heartbreaking, and it's preventable.

Florida just passed Trooper’s Law, making it a felony to restrain and abandon a dog during a mandatory evacuation or natural disaster. It’s named after a bull terrier rescued during a hurricane. That law will save lives. Savannah needs the same protections.

We are asking Savannah’s City Council and Georgia lawmakers to pass a local version of Trooper’s Law. Our coastal city is no stranger to hurricanes. Leaving animals behind in storms puts them in danger and puts first responders at risk too.

Animals depend on us. When a storm is coming, they deserve a chance to live. Make it a crime to abandon them when it matters most.
