Hello and a BIG THANK YOU to the 120,378 people that have signed my petition asking our Canadian politicians to defend the lives of our beloved dogs and cats.
I started this petition in January 2019 to lobby our federal government to criminalize the human consumption of dogs and cats.
Unbelievably, it is STILL LEGAL to kill dogs and cats for food in Canada!
At the start of my petition 2.5 years ago, I was invited to meet privately with current Member of Parliament, Honorable Ken Hardie to discuss this important lead-in issue. This was about six months before Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called an early election.
I updated everyone to share the great news the Liberal Party was going to table their proposal to introduce discussion of criminalization. These were going to be the first steps towards modernizing Canada's federal laws against animal abuse.
Over this time, there were a few tepid emails back-and-forth.
I've recently received an email stating 'animal welfare is not of primary importance to our constituents'. And not to expect it for this current administration nor their election platform.
The intention of today's update is not meant to 'split the votes'. On behalf of the 120,378 of us, I'm simply asking the politicians of the three major parties (Liberal Party, NDP & Conservative Party) to make known their stance on animal cruelty preventing dogs and cats being eaten.
It's 2021 and Canadians are still allowed to eat dogs and cats. This is something we can change.
