On 20th February 2021 a female dog who was around 8 /9 years old was mercilessly beaten in the posh locality of  Vasant Vihar (near Kusumpur Pahadi), South Delhi. The culprit had smashed her head so badly that her right eye, nose and her neck were badly damaged. She was taken to the hospital by the reporters but later they handed over the dog to Kanchan Gill (M-+91 88007 46369) Director of Avasyam Foundation an animal welfare NGO. Saying that they cannot bear the medical expenses of the dog nor are they ready to file any police complaint against the culprit.

The dog is no more. She suffered extreme pain and battled for life for two continuous days till she left for her heavenly abode on 22 February 2021.

Kanchan all this while didn't stop fighting for justice for this poor little soul. With a lot of difficulty she was able to lodge an FIR on 22 February 2021.

There were around 50 people who witnessed this act of cruelty but none were ready to give their statement to the police. Kanchan did't give up again and met one of the witnesses herself and after a lot of pursuation was able to get her statement recorded with the police. The culprit too has confessed to his crime. Both the witness and the culprit have given their statement to the police but the police of Vasant Vihar don't find the murder of a dog an offence enough to put the human monster behind bars. The culprit Devi has still not been arrested.

According to Kanchan this criminal is a drunkard who doesn't even stop from beating his own children and wife. The people residing near his house say that he has killed dogs in the past too. Wonder why is the police so soft on such a criminal?  They have the evidence then what is stoping them from arresting him?

Ever since the dog cruelty case was reported to Kanchan on 20th Feb she has been running from pillar to post trying to get justice for the dog. She not only spent money on her medical treatment but also spent endless hours in the police station for the police to take action. As soon as the dog died she quickly too her to the  Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre where her postmortem was carried out. The postmortem report clearly shows how brutally the old dog was beaten. Also that she was empty stomach for the past 4 / 5 days.

The culprit Devi has told in his statement that the dog entered his house when he was shaving. This shocked him and out of shock he cut his chin with the razor. This made him angry and in rage he beat the dog and smashed her head. The dog must have been hungry and it's quite possible that out of hunger she entered the house. But instead what did she get? ????? PAIN, TORTURE and finally DEATH

How long will such acts of cruelty keep happening in India?

How long will caregivers and animal rights activists like Kanchan keep fighting for justice for these four legged voiceless beings?

How long will our enforcement agencies show indifference and apathy towards such cruelties?
