Life for caregivers is getting tougher day by day in India especially in urban cities and towns.. First because of growing hatred of urban dwellers towards community animals and second because of lack of awareness about animal laws.
Animal haters in the cities are using all their power and might to get the community animals out of their apartments / buildings. They just can't tolerate to see animals around them. Till now their hatred was only confined to stray dogs but now their boundaries have expanded to cats as well. Cat unlike dog is a self contained animal. A free spirited animal who likes to roam around freely. She neither bites nor barks. But the urban dwellers have not spared her either.
Last week Anjali (M+919811061639) a resident of East Delhi was harassed by her own neighbours for feeding a cat and her three kittens. About one and half months back a cat gave birth to four kittens out of which only three survived (pic in the post). She gave birth on the terrace of Anjali's neighbour. Anjali started taking care of the cat and her kittens. She kept water for the cat and occasionally gave her food too. But after two weeks her neighbours started harassing Anjali and asked Anjali to get the cat and her kittens removed from their terrace. Anjali's' terrace is adjacent to her neighbours terrace where the cat has kept her babies. But Anjali refused to remove the kittens and the cat.. She told that the cat had kept the babies by her own sweet will so she alone has the right to remove her babies and take them where ever she wants. And once the babies have grown up they would anyway move around and won't be confined to a terrace. But the neighbours didn't listen to her and started fighting with Anjali and abusing her. They even threatened her of getting the cats removed themselves and if need be even poison her and her new born babies. Many times in the past these nasty inhuman people had even asked Anjali to clean the kittens poop which Anjali did without any hesitation. But after they threatened to poison the cat and her babies Anjali could not sit silently so she approached PFA (People for Animals) and then on their advise she called the police and made a complaint against them. On 2nd August 2020 the police took down a written complaint of Anjali. And ever since Anjali is having no more problem. The neighbours are no longer bothering her nor are they bothering the cats. Although the neighbours did try to build pressure on Anjali to withdraw her complaint by approaching Anjali's landlord. But fortunately Anjali's landlord was in full support of what Anjali didi but not all tenants are as lucky ad Anjali.
What if the landlord had not supported Anjali? What if he had asked Anjali to withdraw her complaint?
Anjali is a tenant who at the moment due to Covid 19 pandemic is living alone.
Imagine what all the poor girl went through. But had it not been for brave Anjali the cat would have lost all her kittens. Anjali is taking good care of the cat and her babies and is even ready to get the cat sterilised once her babies are big enough. According to Anjali the same cat had given birth to kittens few months back but unfirtunately all her babies died. The cat is not Anjali's or anyone's pet but a stray cat who lives in that area. She roams from one terrace to another and one building to another. And feeds on leftovers but never has anyone been bitten or attacked by the cat or any cat in the area. Yet just see the horrible attitude of these urban dwellers.
In another incident which probably took place in Mumbai and got captured in a camera a father and a daughter who are cat haters are fighting with the caregiver who takes care of a stray cat living in their society. Both the father and the daughter have threatened to kill the cat by poisoning her. Apparently the daughter has gone one step further by threatening the male caregiver of pressing charges of sexual assault against him.
How low can a woman fall and how low can humanity go? Imagine poisoning a cat and getting her removed and pressing such false charges against the caregiver.

Dogs bark and sometimes bite but what about cats?????
Never seen a cat attacking or biting any human being.
Urban Indians are turning barbaric.....we were better off in villages than in cities. We selfish humans are encroaching upon animal space and making them homeless and then we have the audacity to call it dog menace and cat menace etc....
The truth is that it is human menace which is responsible for so much animal suffering. We are their culprits.
It's high time the city dwellers learn to peacefully cohabit with these harmless souls.
If they cant cohabit with them out of love then they better do so out of fear. Fear of law.
Just how long will the caregivers suffer and keep fighting back against animal haters who are in majority?
It's time the state governments and the municipal corporations create awareness about animal laws.
