Today was a day which many dog lovers and caregivers were waiting for. A day when our honourable Prime Minister would become the voice of the man's best friend.

In recent years violence, intolerance and cruelty against the man's best friend and his caregiver has been on a rise in India. The majority of Indians have developed a negative attitude towards dogs especially the Indian dog as they think that the Indian dog is of poor breed, is rabid and is wild.

Although the caregivers and the animal welfare NGOs have tried their best to bust these myths but they have stil not succeeded and without the political will and the government support busting these myths and bringing a positive change in the attitude of the people of India towards the Indian breed dog is just next to impossible.

Today the Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation in his popular programme Man Ki Baat talked about dogs and the Indian breed dogs.  He told how the dogs have served this nation through their exemplary services in armed forces, police forces and during natural disasters. He also took their names: Sophie, Vida, Balram, Bhawna and Rocky. He praised the Indian breed dog and mentioned few breeds like  Mudhal hound, Himachali hound, Rajapalayam, Kanni, Chppiparai and Combai and has urged the citizens of India to adopt the Indian breed dogs and keep them as pets at Home. The Prime Minister today became the voice of the voiceless. He spoke for them and told our countrymen that dogs are the most loyal creatures on earth. They are ever ready to sacrifice their lives for we humans. They are indeed the man's best friend and we Indians should acknowledge that.

Let's hope what our honourable Prime Minister said today has reached every home of India especially those who hate dogs and do not hesitate in beating them and killing them.
