Delhi the capital of India is indeed being run by goons and rogues. No one is safe in this city especially the caregivers and the NGOs who work for dog welfare.
On the night of 3rd July 2020 the founder of neighbourhood woofs Ayesha and her employees were physically assaulted by few men who do not like the work they are doing.
Neighbourhood woofs is situated in Timarpur, Delhi. It is one of the ABC units which has an outstanding image in the eyes of the caregivers. They have a very good reputation and the caregivers like to get their dogs sterilised in this centre. Like most of the centres in Delhi: Friendicoes and Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre, Neighbourhood woofs also encourage the categivers to get their dogs themselves. This totally removes any chances of getting the dogs relocated or dropped wrongly at a different location post sterilisation. Also as the caregiver brings the dogs themselves to the centre therefore the traumatic experience of the dog being caught by a loop by a dog catching professional is totally avoided. Anyway in spite of doing this great service to the society Ayesha and her staff face regular harassment and assaults from the people in that area who don't like the work they are doing..
Such people can be found at many places in India. These are those species of dog feeders and non feedeers who do not mind the dogs gettimg multiplied.
There are basically four reasons why they are against sterilisation of dogs.
1 Getting the dogs sterilised is a sin as it takes away their natural right of procreation
2 Sterilisation leads to death of dogs or diseases like cancer. It shortens their life span
3 Sterilisation will lead to eradication of dog population completely.
4 Once the dog goes for sterilisation he is never dropped back to his location.
Now all the above reasons are myths. It's better to get the dogs sterilised because with rapid urbanisation there will be hardly any place for them. That too in a country like India where majority hate them. It's better to get them.sterilized than to watch them and their babies poisoned, beaten up, killed and run over by cars. So getting them sterilised is definitely not a sin.
Sterilisation leads to a more healthy and long life of a dog. It does not shorten its life rather it protects the dog from catching many diseases.
Sterilisation at this juncture will definitely not wipe out the dog race in India. They are at present too many in number and the only ethical and legal way is to get them sterilised.
As per law the dogs can not be relocated so once the dog is picked for sterilisation he has to be dropped back at the same location post sterilisation. But unfortunately this has not been very well followed in the past and even now sometimes the dogs are not dropped back to their location. This is done both intentionally to please the powerful.and the rich and sometimes done by mistake.
Now who will tell all this to the common man of India?
The MCD is only busy making rabies awareness boards. God knows when will it start creating awareness about the ABC programme and the benefits of it to the dogs and to the society.
Ayesha and her employees today went to pick up the dogs but they were attacked and man handled. Ayesha went to the Azadpur Police Station to lodge a complaint against the miscreants but it seems the Delhi police has still not mended it's ways. They are as usual still dumb and deaf. No action taken.

This is the situation of Delhi where the ABC programme is running for the last 20 years now but just see the level of awareness people have about it. These goons who beat up Ayesha and her employees dont even know that they cannot stop the MCD or the NGO from picking up stray dogs for sterilisation or for rescue. Doing so is an offence. Either these fools should keep the dogs as pets in their homes and regulate their population or else get them sterilised. How can they stop sterilisation of stray dogs??????
Isn't it the responsibility of the MCD and the Delhi Govt to make such awareness that people like Ayesha her NGOs do not face such harassment again and again and again......
Recently we saw how few caregivers were manhandled in Bali Nagar, Delhi for the same reason. They had also gone to pick up the dogs for sterilisation.
