Hello! I hope this finds you well, healthy, and staying active in 2023.
I’ve got some good news and updates on making Griffith Park a safer place for all of us. This is still an urgent matter and we will continue to advocate for change in the park until it is fully a park for the community and not the commuters.
Permanent gates and paint on Griffith Park Drive have started and should be done soon! Re-paving/resurfacing and painting were just completed. And work is being done to install the new permanent gates.
I put in a request for the gate at Mt Hollywood drive to be kept open during park hours once the permanent gates at Griffith Park Drive are installed - giving cyclists and equestrians the ability to go all the way up without having to dismount and go on the dirt path to go around.
The study of Griffith Park’s transportation infrastructure (Crystal Springs Drive & Griffith Park Drive Safety and Active Transportation Improvements Project) is done with the draft report now being reviewed by the LA Department of Transportation, the City of Glendale, and City of Burbank to get their feedback. It is expected to be released to the public no later than the 15th of April.
Concurrently the requisite work is being done to transfer the 4 million dollars that was allocated by the State of California to Griffith Park upgrades, thanks to Assemblymember Laura Friedman. The City expects to be able to award contracts to start the next phases of upgrades (most importantly Crystal Springs Drive upgrades) in the late spring or early summer.
I will update you shortly as this progresses!
In the meantime, please continue to share this petition to anyone you know - whether in Los Angeles or beyond.
Thank you!
Best, Damian Kevitt
